It turns out the world does not hold still while you are busy making flashcards. Countries change their currencies, populations shift, flags get quietly redesigned, and new nations earn their place on the international stage. We do our best to keep up.
We are big believers that educational resources should reflect the world as it actually is, not the world as it was when they were first printed. That is why we have just completed a significant update to our Flags of the World flashcards, making sure every card is as accurate and up to date as possible.
Here is everything that has changed, and why we think now is a particularly good time to get a set.
What We Have Updated
New Country Information
Countries have changed since our last update, and we have made sure our cards reflect this. Most notably, Bulgaria adopted the Euro at the start of 2025, joining the growing number of European nations that use the single currency. .
We have also updated population figures across the set, reflecting the latest available data. Populations change constantly, and keeping these figures as current as possible matters to us, particularly for older children using the cards to support geography studies.
A Card for Palestine
We have added a dedicated card for Palestine, reflecting its recognition by a growing number of countries (including the UK) and its inclusion in international sporting and cultural organisations. We felt it was important that our set reflects the world children are growing up in.
Flag Updates
Several countries have made changes to their national flags since we last created a version of our set, and we have updated our artwork accordingly. These are not always dramatic changes, but accuracy matters, and we would rather children learn the correct version of a flag than an outdated one.
Smaller Corrections and Refinements
As with any thorough review, we also made a number of smaller corrections and refinements across the set. Aspect ratios, colour accuracy and factual details have all been checked and improved where needed.
Why Now is a Great Time to Own a Set
If you have been thinking about picking up our Flags of the World flashcards, there has never been a better moment. Interest in international geography among children and young people is genuinely high right now, and there are many reasons fort that, from more concerning ones such as international conflict, to far more enjoyable ones like sport.
The FIFA World Cup 2026
This summer, football (or 'soccer') arrives in North America. The 2026 FIFA Men's World Cup runs from 11 June to 19 July, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico. It is the biggest World Cup ever staged, featuring 48 national teams for the first time in the tournament's history, spread across 104 matches in 16 host cities.
For young football fans, the World Cup is one of the most powerful triggers of curiosity about other countries. Which flag belongs to which nation? What is the capital of Senegal? What currency does Morocco use? These are exactly the questions children start asking when they see flags on screens and in stadiums, and our flashcards are perfectly placed to answer them.
With 216 cards covering countries from every continent, colour-coded by region, and packed with facts including capital cities, populations, currencies and continental groupings, our Flags of the World set turns World Cup enthusiasm into genuine geographical knowledge.
First-Time Qualifiers and Returning Nations
Part of what makes the 2026 World Cup particularly interesting from a geography perspective is the number of nations making their debut or returning after a long absence. Countries including Cabo Verde, Curaçao, Jordan and Uzbekistan will be appearing at a World Cup for the first time.
For children following the tournament, these are countries they may never have thought about before. Having a set of flashcards to hand means that curiosity does not go unanswered. Others, including Austria, Norway and Scotland, are returning after gaps of nearly 30 years.
The Same Quality You Would Expect
All of our flashcards are designed by teachers and aligned with the UK National Curriculum, so they are useful for learning at home and at school alike. Each card is double-sided, with the flag on the front and country facts on the reverse, and they come supplied in a bright, sturdy storage box.
They are made in the EU to our usual high standards, and are fully recyclable as always.
Whether you are buying for a young football fan gearing up for a summer of World Cup action, a curious child who loves geography, or as an educational gift that will last for years, our Flags of the World flash cards are fully up-to-date.
