When we wrote about why we make our products in the UK, we talked about control, quality, short supply chains and the importance of supporting British manufacturing. Well, now we have the mark to prove that commitment.
Little Wigwam is now an official member of Made in Britain, the nationally recognised trade organisation that awards its collective mark to businesses that manufacture their products in the UK. Our children's placemats, educational posters, and height charts all qualify for the mark, reflecting the fact that they are genuinely designed and made here.
What the Made in Britain mark means
The Made in Britain mark is not a self-declaration, it's awarded by an independent organisation that verifies the manufacturing credentials of every member business before granting use of the collective mark. Businesses that display it have met a defined standard.
For parents buying our products, the mark is a straightforward assurance that the placemats on your child's table, the posters on their wall and the height chart on their door frame were made by us in the United Kingdom, using the safest materials and inks, and with an ethical approach to materials.
Which products carry the mark
Our UK-made range covers three product categories: our educational placemats, our educational posters and our height charts. All three are manufactured in the UK from carefully selected materials, printed with child-safe inks and the placemats are produced under the BRC Packaging (Food Hygiene) Standard that makes them food-safe as well as child-safe.
Our flash cards and jigsaws are made in the EU rather than the UK, and do not carry the Made in Britain mark. As we explained in our original article on UK manufacturing, that is a deliberate choice based on the quality of materials and finishing available from our European suppliers, who meet the same ethical and safety standards we require of all our partners.
Why this matters to us
Made in Britain membership is something we have worked towards at Little Wigwam. The business was founded on a commitment to UK manufacturing, and carrying the official mark is a way of making that commitment visible and verifiable rather than simply stated.
In a market where similar claims are common and not always scrutinised, the Made in Britain mark gives parents something concrete to look for. It's a clear signal that the manufacture is safe, ethical, and that our products aren't shipped round the world before we sell them, so their environmental impact is as low as possible.
